Veterans Have a Word to Say About the Constitution, Duty, and Who They Serve

The Military News this morning contained an article titled “Military Veterans Call Out Trump, Hegseth and Pentagon in New Video.” Rather than post the entire article written by Nick Mordowanec, I am providing a link to their short video.

This issue was a matter of personal concern prior to the Trumpian attack on Mark Kelly and others. I addressed this in my blog titled “11 November, Part Two: Oath and Loyalty.”

Nick Mordowanec writes in his article that when asked about the Pentagon leadership, Kenneth Harbaugh, a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1996 to 2005, noted the “shame” Hegseth has, in Mordowance summary, brought “upon the broader military institution and claimed the secretary is using his pulpit and his department as a political tool to hound the political opposition.” He then quotes Harbaugh as saying:

“I think we should have known—some of us did know—that this was coming, given the fact that [Hegseth] could not manage a small nonprofit, given the fact that his personal character failings were on display for everyone to see, sometimes on camera.”

“The fact that he should be given control over the most powerful, largest instrument of American power—the largest part of the American government—was a slap in the face to those who wear the uniform and risked their lives,” Harbaugh added.

This is our military, not Trump’s Praetorian Guard. Think about the ramifications of illegal and unconstitutional orders for our military personnel. David French, formerly a JAG officer, has written on this subject in his 23 November New York Times opinion piece, “Trump Has Put the Military in an Impossible Situation.” A link to his opinion piece is provided at the end of this blog.

Please take the time to watch this video.
