THE SALT OF INDIVIDUAL ACTION:

THE POSSIBILITY OF ANSWERS

But what can one person do? I will not pretend to have all the answers to how to respond to the totalitarian regime that, in a few short months, has blatantly disregarded the law of our society and denigrated our allies in the international community. What follows in this and the following post are proposals for actions.

A Campaign of Words

Many have written to our Congressional Representatives and Senators. The correspondence is both in the correct direction and misdirected. Our ire needs to be directed at those aligned with the Administration. They need to “feel the heat.” Their positions need to be challenged.

Emails and letters should be addressed to the White House chief of staff, all of the departmental secretaries (e.g., State, Defense, Homeland Security, &c.), and the national security advisor on issues related to the weakening of our national cybersecurity. Select an issue or issues and write the appropriate departmental head, with copies to Trump’s Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, and Stephen Miller, the Deputy Chief of Staff.

Target your letters to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and other Republican Senators and House members on the issues. Do a little research on the topic you write on, and send a copy of your letter with a brief note to your Senator and Representative. If a Republican represents you, forward a copy of your correspondence to the Democratic Senate and House of Representatives Leadership.

They usually don’t respond to our calls, emails, and letters, regardless of their Party affiliation. We aren’t writing the MAGA Republicans to receive personal responses. We are writing them to hear our voices.

Imagine a deluge of letters coming into their offices. Encourage others to write.  A “Paper Protest.” Don’t be discouraged. Be a voice in a chorus of voices. Can you participate in this campaign? Can you encourage and organize others to participate in A Campaign of Words? Do you want to? Tell me what you think.
